Position Title: Registered Nurse (RN)
Department: Medical Telemetry Surgical

Purpose:
The Registered Nurse (RN) provides safe, effective, and culturally competent care to adolescent through aging adult patients with diverse health needs. Key responsibilities include assessing, diagnosing, planning, implementing, and evaluating patient care using critical thinking and evidence-based practice. The RN adheres to the Professional Practice Standards as outlined by the American Nurses Association (ANA) and actively participates in quality monitoring and performance improvement activities.
Reports To: Manager
Supervisory Responsibility:
While this role does not include formal supervisory duties, the RN is accountable for scheduling, assigning, and coordinating work within the team. The RN provides guidance, training, and support to colleagues and may serve in a “lead” or informal supervisory capacity. The RN may also offer suggestions or provide input on human resources matters.
Materials Responsibility:
This position involves limited responsibility for material resources, such as supplies, equipment, and inventories. The RN’s control over these resources is minimal, and issues related to material resources are typically straightforward. The impact of errors is also limited in terms of financial loss, damage, or waste.
Key Relationships:
The RN will interact with a diverse range of individuals, including:
Co-workers and health system employees
External healthcare providers and agencies
Patients, families, and visitors
Physicians and medical office staff
Students, interns, residents, and outside instructors
Position Requirements
Education:
Associate’s Degree in Nursing required
Preferred: Baccalaureate Degree in Nursing
Special Training/Certifications:
Basic Life Support (BLS) required
Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification required within 9 months
ECG Monitoring
Licensure/Registration:
Registered Nurse (RN) in Illinois required
Registered Nurse (RN) in Iowa required within 1 year of hire
Experience:
No prior experience required
Interpersonal Skills:
The RN will interact with a variety of people in both routine and complex situations. Effective communication and the ability to manage moderately complicated or stressful scenarios are essential. The RN should have good interpersonal skills to navigate detailed conversations and exchanges of information.
Physical Demands:
This position requires a high level of physical activity, including lifting more than 50 pounds and maintaining physical stamina for extended periods. The role demands significant muscular control, fine dexterity, and the ability to work in various body postures. Physical exertion is especially high (10-35% of the time), leading to considerable fatigue and the need for periodic rest.
Working Conditions:
The RN will be routinely exposed to physical hazards, health and safety risks, and environmental challenges. Adherence to safety protocols and use of protective equipment is required. The RN may encounter these conditions up to 70% of the workday.
