Registered Nurse – Hem/Onc, Critical Care or Emergency Care

Schedule: Day shift, United States (2×10-hour shifts + 2×8-hour shifts weekly; every third Saturday)
Location: Chicago, Illinois

About the Role

We are looking for a dedicated and experienced Registered Nurse with at least four years of clinical experience—ideally in Hematology/Oncology, Critical Care, or Emergency Medicine. This role combines advanced nursing practice with compassionate family engagement in a fast-paced, highly collaborative environment.

Lurie Children’s also considers visa sponsorship for qualified RN candidates based on eligibility, hospital needs, and applicable legal requirements.

Key Responsibilities

Clinical Care & Assessment

  • Conduct thorough nursing assessments using area-specific tools and evidence-based methods.
  • Provide high-quality nursing care following approved protocols and anticipate emergent situations with confidence and skill.

Care Planning & Coordination

  • Develop individualized care plans that address patient and family needs, updating documentation as conditions evolve.
  • Create and adapt teaching plans that support patient and family learning, including identifying preferences, strengths, and readiness to learn.
  • Coordinate with physicians, specialists, and other team members to address health concerns and communicate status changes promptly.

Professional Practice

  • Stay informed on the latest developments in nursing and healthcare literature to apply best evidence in practice.
  • Integrate hospital-wide quality and safety initiatives into everyday care.
  • Demonstrate strong communication, professionalism, and service excellence aligned with the hospital’s mission and values.

Teamwork & Leadership

  • Contribute to a collaborative team environment that supports unit and hospital goals.
  • Engage in continuous learning, skill advancement, and Magnet®-aligned nursing practice focused on new knowledge, exemplary care, empowerment, and transformational leadership.
  • Promote an inclusive, welcoming, and equitable environment for patients, families, and colleagues.

Additional Requirements

  • Follow all safety and disinfection procedures, including protocols for chemical disinfection and sterilization when applicable.
  • Complete other assigned responsibilities in support of patient care and department goals.

 

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN)
  • Active Illinois RN License
  • AHA Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification

 

Pay Range

$37.00 – $61.05 per hour
