The company is currently seeking a Transportation Technician IV to join its Construction Management Division in New Bern, North Carolina. The role involves supervising transportation construction projects and leading inspection teams across the state to ensure all work meets established quality and safety standards.
Responsibilities
- Lead inspections on roadway and bridge construction projects to ensure compliance with plans, specifications, and regulatory requirements.
- Supervise field inspection staff throughout all phases of the construction process.
- Track and measure construction quantities and verify pay items.
- Collect and maintain accurate project records including material certifications, daily reports, and testing documentation.
- Communicate with contractors, subcontractors, public agencies, and internal departments to address field-related issues and resolve technical concerns.
- Support engineers and project managers with technical documentation and progress updates.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
- Associate degree in Civil Engineering Technology, Surveying, or a related field, with at least seven years of progressive field or technician-level experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Active driver’s license.
- Strong understanding of highway construction methods and ability to interpret technical drawings and specifications.
- Experience planning, scheduling, tracking, and completing field projects independently.
- Ability to apply engineering concepts to solve field problems.
- Familiarity with North Carolina Department of Transportation (NCDOT) standards, specifications, and roadway drawings.
- Preferred certifications include Concrete Field Technician, QMS Roadway Technician, and Conventional Density Testing.
- Prior experience with NCDOT or local public clients is desirable.
Work Environment
This position is primarily field-based and requires regular physical activity such as standing, bending, kneeling, shoveling, and lifting up to 25 pounds. Work may take place in varying weather conditions including heat, cold, humidity, or rain.
