This role involves overseeing a specialized engineering discipline section, directing project execution from conception through delivery while maintaining strict adherence to scope, budget, and quality standards. You’ll coordinate resource allocation, manage staffing strategies, and ensure optimal project outcomes through strategic leadership and technical mentorship.

Primary Responsibilities

Financial & Strategic Management

• Develop and oversee sectional operating budgets aligned with organizational financial objectives and forecasting requirements
• Execute HNTB’s strategic initiatives and Sophisticated Sales Approach (SSA) methodology for business development activities
• Implement contracting processes (SCA) encompassing scope definition, work planning, and fee structure analysis
• Deploy project delivery systems (SDA) including comprehensive work planning and monthly performance evaluations

Team Leadership & Development

• Direct supervision of 5-10+ engineering professionals across multiple project portfolios
• Establish performance standards, conduct evaluations, and develop compensation strategies
• Create succession planning frameworks and implement professional development programs
• Foster collaborative relationships across departments to optimize resource sharing and project efficiency

Client Relations & Business Development

• Maintain strategic client partnerships ensuring satisfaction and repeat business opportunities
• Participate in marketing initiatives including proposal development, client presentations, and contract negotiations
• Conduct client discovery sessions and support win-to-work transition activities

Technical Project Execution

• Oversee project management functions including scope control, scheduling, and quality assurance
• Perform technical engineering tasks encompassing research, design specifications, and plan development
• Ensure compliance with industry standards and regulatory requirements per Federal Highway Administration guidelines

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering
• Minimum 8 years professional engineering experience
• 2+ years demonstrated leadership experience in technical environments

Preferred Qualifications

• 10+ years comprehensive engineering experience
• Active Professional Engineer (PE) licensure
• Advanced leadership experience in infrastructure or related sectors
