The Opportunity

We’re seeking a Software Engineer to join our Checkout squad. This team plays a central role in Etsy Payments, ensuring buyers enjoy a smooth and reliable purchasing experience.

In this role, you’ll collaborate closely with engineers, product managers, designers, and analysts to shape and deliver features that directly enhance the buyer journey.

This position reports to the Engineering Manager, Checkout. Alongside your salary, you’ll receive an equity package, annual performance bonus, and a comprehensive benefits program designed to support you and your family.

Work Location

• Candidates must be based in the United States.
• Applicants within commuting distance of our Brooklyn Office Hub or the San Francisco Bay Area will be given priority.
• Employees living near our hubs typically attend the office once or twice weekly.
• Etsy offers a variety of work modes to meet the needs of our teams.

What You’ll Do

• Partner with teammates, product managers, and designers to define and deliver product requirements.
• Write, test, and ship code regularly using continuous deployment systems.
• Run experiments and analyze their impact to improve buyer experience.
• Participate in design and code reviews to uphold high-quality engineering standards.
• Share insights, learn from peers, and contribute to a culture of continuous growth.

What We’re Looking For

• 3+ years of professional software development experience, ideally within a product-focused environment.
• A balance of passion for building exceptional products and writing clean, reliable code.
• Strong commitment to code quality, with the ability to enhance and maintain existing systems.
• Self-motivated, quick to learn, and able to work independently.
• Excellent communication skills—clear, confident, and collaborative.
