Job Description

At Ford, we believe in shaping a future where mobility is electric, innovative, and accessible to everyone. Every day, our teams push boundaries, build solutions, and create technologies that move the world forward. If you’re excited by the idea of contributing to something bigger than yourself, this is your chance to help reinvent the way people move.

About the Team

You’ll be joining Ford’s Electric Vehicles, Digital and Design (EVDD) organisation—an environment built on curiosity, collaboration, and customer obsession. EVDD focuses on delivering exceptional experiences for electric-vehicle customers by combining cutting-edge engineering, digital innovation, and data-driven decision-making. This is where our future EV vision becomes reality, and you’ll be part of the group helping to bring that vision to life.

Role Overview

We’re looking for a seasoned Software Developer in Test with deep expertise in embedded systems, specifically within the automotive space. In this role, you’ll design, develop, and maintain automated testing solutions for embedded software powering Ford’s next generation of electric vehicles. Your work will directly influence the quality, safety, and reliability of our products.

What You’ll Be Responsible For

  • Building, maintaining, and optimising sophisticated system-level automotive test benches, integrating both hardware and software to create reliable, scalable testing environments.
  • Developing end-to-end V&V plans—including test scenarios, test cases, scripts, and validation methodologies—to ensure functional, safety, performance, and regression requirements are met.
  • Executing automated test scripts and leveraging Python to improve efficiency, precision, and repeatability of testing workflows.
  • Working closely with software developers, systems engineers, and controls engineers to review requirements, identify gaps, and drive testability improvements.
  • Translating system requirements and use cases into detailed and actionable test scenarios.
  • Troubleshooting issues across software and embedded platforms, taking the lead on root cause analysis, validation of fixes, and ensuring regressions are prevented.
  • Participating in code reviews with a focus on maintainability, test coverage, and automation opportunities.
  • Driving continuous improvement in testing processes, tools, and best practices.
  • Mentoring junior engineers and helping strengthen the team’s V&V and automation capabilities.
  • Preparing technical reports, presenting test results, and communicating system quality insights to stakeholders.

What You’ll Bring

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field.
  • 8+ years of professional experience in embedded software testing within the automotive sector.
  • Hands-on background with Electric Vehicle testing or development.
  • Strong programming skills in Python, C/C++, or similar languages used in embedded development.
  • Experience using automated testing tools/frameworks such as Pytest, Robot Framework, Slash, or Jenkins.
  • Expertise with automotive HIL environments such as dSPACE, Vector VT, or equivalent platforms.
  • Ability to debug automotive communication protocols including CAN, LIN, FlexRay, and Ethernet.
  • Prior experience mentoring or leading engineering peers.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Familiarity with automotive diagnostic tools and testing ecosystems.
  • Working knowledge of IDLs like ARXML, LDF, DBC, and internal data-description frameworks.
  • Understanding of functional safety standards (e.g., ISO 26262).
  • Knowledge of sensing and measurement principles involving analog/digital sensors, signal conditioning, and data acquisition.
  • Hands-on experience building wiring, circuits, and basic electrical schematics.
  • Exposure to CI/CD pipelines.
  • Previous experience contributing to Electric Vehicle programs.
