Position Overview

This Senior Application Developer role focuses on Guidewire platform development and maintenance within our technology ecosystem. The successful candidate will architect, develop, and sustain sophisticated application systems utilizing Guidewire technologies alongside complementary platforms. Cross-functional collaboration is central to this position, delivering software solutions that directly address organizational requirements. The role demands advanced technical proficiency, analytical problem-solving capabilities, and mentorship abilities to elevate support team performance. Primary focus areas include Guidewire Policy, Guidewire Billing, Guidewire Digital, and interconnected application infrastructure, executing assigned development initiatives in partnership with Product Managers, Business Owners, and Solution Architects to advance HSB’s Policy administration objectives. Core Responsibilities

Contribute as an integral product team member driving initiatives within the Guidewire Policy and Billing environment. Architect, specify, and develop code for sophisticated or large-scale systems. Determine optimal design standards, methodologies, and toolsets aligned with established enterprise and solution architectures, ensuring consistent application. Establish development project standards and policies. Champion security consideration integration throughout development lifecycles. Contribute to system architecture design and interface planning. Provide mentorship to Application Developers advancing their technical capabilities. Oversee integration build processes, accepting software modules and generating builds for deployment environments. Maintain code quality oversight.

Partner with support organizations to maintain established service level agreements for the Guidewire application portfolio including Policy, Billing and Claims components. Engage directly with business stakeholders to optimize application operation, performance, quality, and responsiveness. Coordinate with product managers and business leaders on feature design, task prioritization, and realistic delivery estimates. Develop and sustain efficient, reusable, maintainable code following approved specifications and standards. Create, maintain, or direct completion of required business and technical documentation supporting product requirements, including security and operational compliance materials as outlined by the U.S. Department of Labor’s recordkeeping standards at https://www.dol.gov/agencies/whd/fact-sheets. Oversee development workflows ensuring quality through code reviews and release management while mentoring developers, facilitating problem resolution, and promoting continuous improvement initiatives.

Deliver analytical support and troubleshooting for incident resolution.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or equivalent field
  • Minimum seven years in software development environments with progressive responsibility in building, leading, or developing solutions
  • At least four years specifically developing within Guidewire platforms
  • Ace Certification in Guidewire InsuranceSuite and Digital
  • Demonstrated understanding of product modeling concepts
  • Hands-on integration experience across Guidewire products including ClaimCenter, PolicyCenter, BillingCenter, and Jutro
  • Proven design and development expertise in Guidewire utilizing Webservices, SOA architecture, Plug-ins, Messaging frameworks, API development, EDGE API, and related technologies
  • Proficiency in Guidewire configuration including APD, Rules, PCFs, entity extensions, and product administration
  • Background in both Guidewire self-managed environments and Guidewire Cloud implementations
  • API management experience using Azure APIM or comparable API gateway platforms
  • Familiarity with Cloud Infrastructure and associated Services
  • Advanced proficiency in JAVA/JEE and SQL
  • Experience defining and implementing micro-services architectures
  • Participation in large-scale transformation initiatives
  • Background working within product team frameworks utilizing common development principles and practices
  • Primary insurance industry experience strongly preferred
  • Demonstrated experience leading onsite and offshore development teams through direct or indirect management
