Position Title: Family Medicine Physician
Employment Type: Full-time, Permanent

About the Role

This role involves delivering and overseeing direct health care for a defined patient population, with a primary focus on Family Medicine. The position requires both clinical expertise and a commitment to education, research, and administration, following CMU Partners’ CARE Model (Clinical, Administrative, Research, Educational).

Key Responsibilities

Clinical (C)

  • Provide direct patient care, including examinations, diagnoses, treatments, and prescribing medications.
  • Deliver care to a diverse patient population, including medically underserved and low-income communities.
  • Maintain hospital staff privileges and participate in academic rounds.
  • Supervise and mentor residents and medical students in clinical and inpatient settings.
  • Ensure compliance with departmental policies, safety standards, and continuous quality improvement.

Administrative (A)

  • Contribute to program planning, implementation, and evaluation within CMU Partners’ medical services.
  • Participate in departmental operations as assigned.

Research (R)

  • Engage in research activities aligned with the department’s objectives.
  • Support scholarly initiatives that advance family medicine practice.

Educational (E)

  • Assist in developing and delivering educational programs for residents and students.
  • Support curriculum development and evaluate resident and student progress.
  • Lecture at conferences, grand rounds, and other academic events.
  • Provide clinical supervision during clerkship student rotations.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Strong clinical assessment and diagnostic skills.
  • Knowledge of ethical, legal, and accreditation standards in medical care.
  • Proficiency in prescribing medications and guiding patient use.
  • Ability to uphold safety, quality, and infection control standards.
  • Understanding of community-based medical services.
  • Effective communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively.

Working Conditions

  • Moderate physical activity, including standing/walking for extended periods and handling objects up to 25 pounds.
  • Exposure to potentially hazardous materials; strict adherence to safety protocols required.
  • Possible contact with blood or blood-borne pathogens; OSHA training mandatory.

Qualifications

  • Education/Experience: Board-certified or board-eligible in Family Medicine.
  • Licensure: Must hold or be eligible for required state licensure and certification.
  • Appointments: Maintain medical staff appointments at partner institutions and secure a faculty appointment with the CMED department.
  • Commitment to Education: Participation in teaching and mentoring is an integral part of this role.
