Job Description

Electrical Integration & Development Engineer – Ford Motor Company

Ford Motor Company is charting the course toward an all-electric future, and the Electric Vehicles, Digital, and Design (EVDD) organization sits at the very center of that journey. This group unites entrepreneurial energy, data-driven insights, and a relentless focus on the customer to deliver electric vehicles that raise industry standards. Joining this team means working at the edge of innovation, shaping the everyday experience of EV owners, and laying the foundations for mobility that enables freedom and possibility for all.

Role Summary

We are looking for an Electrical Integration & Development Engineer who thrives at the intersection of design, development, and troubleshooting. In this role, you’ll be the technical lead responsible for making sure our prototype vehicles and test assets are electrically sound from concept through production. Your work will bridge design and manufacturing, enable system-level performance, and ensure that every vehicle meets our uncompromising standards of quality and reliability.

This is not a “behind the scenes” position. You’ll be a visible leader, diagnosing complex challenges, guiding cross-functional teams, and directly influencing the electrical architectures that power Ford’s next-generation EV programs.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the electrical start-up and system integration of prototype vehicles.
  • Identify, diagnose, and resolve vehicle-level electrical concerns by applying first-principles thinking.
  • Partner with hardware, software, and integration teams to create effective solutions and keep vehicle development on track.
  • Coordinate closely with manufacturing teams to align electrical architecture and integration strategies for a seamless launch.
  • Generate technical documentation, system diagrams, and release materials for platform architectures.
  • Act as the primary expert for critical electrical issues, providing rapid response and leadership in resolving vehicle concerns.
  • Work alongside systems test teams to validate integration at the vehicle level and share findings across engineering groups.
  • Apply lessons learned from development and launch phases to improve future design approaches and electrical architectures.

Qualifications Required

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical, Computer, or Mechanical Engineering (or equivalent field).
  • 8+ years of professional experience with electrical system design, diagnostics, or integration.
  • Strong grounding in electrical engineering fundamentals applied to automotive concepts.
  • Proven expertise in vehicle launch from prototype to production.
  • Advanced diagnostic skills across electrical, software, and mechanical systems.
  • Knowledge of low-voltage systems development, EV system architecture, functional safety, and component integration.
  • Experience with microprocessor-based design and common communication interfaces (SPI, I2C, UART, Ethernet).
  • Strong project leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to thrive in dynamic, cross-functional teams with a systems-thinking approach.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in Engineering or related technical field.
  • Experience using oscilloscopes, power supplies, signal generators, and DMMs.
  • Familiarity with requirements management platforms (e.g., JAMA).
  • Automotive hardware development background from concept to launch.
  • Knowledge of Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (FMEA) and Hazard Analysis and Risk Assessment (HARA).
  • Understanding of electro-mechanical devices with embedded software and networked microcontrollers.

What We Offer

At Ford, your career can be as global or specialized as you choose. We provide flexibility, growth opportunities, and programs that support both your professional ambitions and your personal well-being:

  • Comprehensive health coverage (medical, vision, dental, prescription).
  • Parental leave, family care days, adoption and surrogacy benefits, fertility assistance, and childcare support.
  • Vehicle discounts and management lease programs.
  • Tuition assistance and professional development support.
  • Paid time off including generous holidays and the option to purchase additional vacation.
  • Flexible hybrid work schedule, with up to three onsite days per week depending on location.
  • Commitment to diversity through active employee resource groups and inclusive culture initiatives.
  • Paid opportunities for community involvement and volunteer projects.
