The Opportunity

We are seeking a Senior Rail Engineer to join our New York team. This role focuses on providing high-level technical expertise and leadership for rail projects, with emphasis on areas such as:

• Positive Train Control (PTC)
• Track and crossing design
• Communications and signaling systems
• Onboard systems and OSC
• Traction power systems

You will play a key role in developing conceptual and detailed engineering designs, preparing construction contracts, and guiding less experienced team members.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead and coordinate technical design activities across multiple rail specialty areas.
• Provide senior-level expertise on conceptual and detailed engineering for transit projects.
• Manage design calculations, specifications, reports, and bid documents (including proposals and cost estimates).
• Oversee development of track alignment plans, cross sections, details, and charts.
• Mentor and provide technical guidance to early-career rail engineers and staff.
• Make informed decisions based on site conditions and project requirements.
• Perform additional duties as needed.

Qualifications

Required

• Bachelor’s degree in a relevant engineering discipline and at least 10 years of experience, OR
• In lieu of a degree, 14 years of relevant experience.

Preferred

• Direct experience in the railroad industry.

Skills & Attributes

• Strong independent decision-making ability.
• Capable of supervising project-related tasks and delegating effectively.
• Ability to work collaboratively with clients and project stakeholders.
• RWP qualified or eligible for training.

Compensation & Benefits

• Pay Range (New York): $146,829.42 – $293,182.12
  (Actual compensation depends on skills, experience, and location within the state.)
