Job Description

Build the Future of Electric Mobility With Ford

At Ford, we show up every day with one shared purpose: to create a better world together. We’re innovators, problem-solvers, and builders who believe in shaping a future where everyone has the freedom to move and pursue their goals. If you’re ready to help transform the way the world moves, you’ll find a meaningful place here.

Our Electric Vehicles, Digital & Design (EVDD) team sits at the center of Ford’s vision for a fully electric future. We’re customer-focused, entrepreneurial, and powered by data. This is where agile thinkers and hands-on doers come together to design exceptional experiences for electric vehicle customers around the world. Join us and help drive real change through teamwork, curiosity, and everyday excellence.

What This Opportunity Offers

As part of our EVDD group, you’ll gain real-world experience shaping the software and systems that power next-generation electric vehicles. You will:

  • Learn how to develop code and manage data that directly improves EV energy efficiency and environmental impact.
  • Strengthen your analytical skills while working alongside global, cross-functional teams.
  • Own a project that exposes you to new technologies, tools, and engineering processes used to elevate vehicle performance and customer experience.
  • Build hands-on expertise across concept development, prototyping, vehicle testing, calibration, and both physical and virtual analysis.
  • Work with data-driven processes and toolsets that guide critical engineering decisions.

Technical Contributions You’ll Make

  • Develop an automated Python-based test framework to validate bootloaders across multiple ECUs—enabling stable, reliable over-the-air (OTA) updates.
  • Automate testing of DIDs and UDS routines to ensure diagnostic robustness and compliance.
  • Support bootloader validation tasks such as watchdog behavior testing, recovery workflows, and authenticity/integrity checks.
  • Help enhance validation practices by integrating test results into CI pipelines for full-system regression testing.
  • Apply your knowledge of embedded C, bootloader architecture, and automotive communication protocols (CAN, UDS) to improve software reliability and performance.

What You’ll Bring

Required

  • Pursuing a bachelor’s or master’s degree in Computer Science, Mechanical/Automotive Engineering, or a related discipline.
  • Minimum GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale (or equivalent).
  • Strong analytical mindset and creative problem-solving ability.
  • Ability to work within fast-paced, multidisciplinary teams.
  • Curiosity to explore, investigate, and ask “why.”
  • Availability to work on-site at our Irvine, CA or Dearborn, MI campus.
  • Ability to commit to a 6-month engagement.
  • Graduation and full-time work availability prior to September.
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States.
(Learn more about U.S. employment eligibility: U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services – Employment Authorization https://www.uscis.gov/i-9-central/form-i-9-verification)

Preferred

  • Prior exposure to electric vehicle systems or EV-related projects.
  • Experience building cloud-based CI/CD pipelines and dashboards.
  • Ability to extract insights from data to support engineering decision-making.
  • Interest in automotive software, diagnostics, and embedded systems.

And remember—if your experience doesn’t match every bullet point, we still encourage you to apply. We’re looking for people who can bring value, curiosity, and fresh perspective.
