Design Engineer – Help Build the Future of Autonomous Bookkeeping

Synthetic is reinventing how small businesses handle bookkeeping. Instead of relying on traditional manual processes, we are creating an AI-powered system that fully replicates the work of a professional bookkeeper — from processing financial data to managing workflows and communicating with customers on its own.

Our founders previously built Bench Accounting from the ground up, growing it into a company with more than 600 employees and over $100M raised. They also created Teal, later acquired by Mercury. Now, we’re returning to the SMB accounting world with an even bigger vision and the same hunger to build something transformative.

Synthetic officially launched in November 2025, and at this early stage we are still a two-person founding team. We’re based in San Francisco, working in-person six days a week to turn our concept into a real, high-impact product. We’re looking for someone ambitious, capable, and eager to help shape and ship the first generation of our product.

Your Role

As a Design Engineer, you will play a critical part in shaping how our AI agents interact with customers and how the product feels and functions. Your day-to-day work may include:

• Designing and building intelligent agents that communicate with users and trigger the right tool actions
• Rapid prototyping and shipping new interface components using Figma, SvelteKit, Tailwind, and TypeScript
• Making fast, thoughtful decisions in an environment where speed matters
• Taking calculated risks and exploring bold product ideas

Compensation & Benefits

• Salary: $200,000 – $350,000 USD
• Equity: $200,000 – $1,000,000 USD (depending on experience and fit)
• Health benefits
• Visa sponsorship available for exceptional international candidates

Overall Compensation Range: $250K – $350K
