Role Overview

JMT’s Construction Management Division is currently seeking a Transportation Technician I to assist with construction inspection and quality assurance for transportation projects across North Carolina. The role involves applying standardized inspection and testing procedures before, during, and after construction to ensure compliance with plans, specifications, and safety regulations.

While this role primarily covers multiple North Carolina project locations, specific assignments can be discussed with the hiring manager during the interview process.

Key Responsibilities

  • Inspect contractors’ work on roadway, bridge, and other transportation infrastructure projects to ensure adherence to approved plans, specifications, and quality standards.
  • Conduct routine materials testing and verify compliance with construction requirements.
  • Record and measure quantities of pay items for project documentation.
  • Collect and maintain project-related documents including material certifications, daily inspection reports, and testing results.
  • Participate in safety audits and report site conditions requiring corrective action.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned to support overall project delivery.

 

Skills and Qualifications

Minimum Requirements:

  • Associate degree in Civil Engineering Technology, Survey Technology, or a related discipline from an accredited institution; or at least two years of Construction Engineering and Inspection (CEI) experience.
  • Valid driver’s license and clean driving record.
  • Ability to pass company motor vehicle and drug screening tests, with ongoing compliance required.

Preferred Qualifications:

NCDOT certifications such as:

  • Concrete Field Technician
  • QMS Roadway Technician
  • Conventional Density Testing

Previous inspection experience on NCDOT construction projects.

 

Working Environment

  • Primarily field-based role involving regular outdoor work in varying weather and site conditions.
  • Must be comfortable with physical activity such as walking, climbing, kneeling, and standing for extended periods.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and navigate construction sites safely, including elevated structures and uneven terrain.
  • Willingness to work nights, weekends, or overtime as project schedules demand.
