Job Description
- Mechanical Engineering (Two Tenure-Track Positions)

California State University, Fresno is seeking two full-time tenure-track Assistant Professors to join the Department of Mechanical Engineering within the Lyles College of Engineering. Both appointments begin in Fall 2026 and reflect the university’s dedication to research excellence, diversity, and innovation in engineering education.
The college has been a leading center of engineering learning in California’s Central Valley since 1947, maintaining continuous accreditation by the Engineering Accreditation Commission of ABET since 1965. The department serves more than 500 students through project-based learning, industry partnerships, and community engagement.
Areas of Specialization
Position 1: Engineering Design, Numerical Analysis, and Artificial Intelligence (AI)
Emphasis on computer-aided design, numerical simulations, and machine learning applications in mechanical or aerospace engineering.
Position 2: Mechanics, Manufacturing, and Automation
Focus on robotics, automation, materials and manufacturing, and process control systems.
Key Responsibilities
- Teach undergraduate and graduate courses and laboratories aligned with assigned fields.
- Develop and enhance curriculum in design, AI, manufacturing, and automation.
- Conduct scholarly research, publish findings in peer-reviewed journals, and pursue research funding.
- Supervise undergraduate and graduate projects and theses.
- Participate in professional activities, community service, and departmental governance.
- Contribute to maintaining ABET accreditation standards.
Required Qualifications
- Doctoral degree (Ph.D., D.Eng., or equivalent) in Mechanical Engineering or a closely related field from an accredited institution.
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline.
- Evidence of effective teaching and scholarly potential.
- Record of research publications or conference participation.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Commitment to working with diverse students and staff.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience teaching university-level mechanical engineering courses.
- Prior success in obtaining research funding or grants.
- Participation in professional or academic organizations.
- Relevant industry or government experience.

Employment and Policy Information
